Isn’t It Ironic? The readings and notes for the last two weeks have covered the use of setting and irony as literary devices in fiction. Consider the short stories “The English Woman”, “The Collector of Treasures”, “A Contract”, and “Marriage Is Private Affair”. In what ways was irony used in these short stories? Did the authors use, verbal irony, dramatic irony, or irony of situation? Also consider the importance of setting in the short story “The Storm” by Kate Chopin. How did the stormy and rainy atmosphere impact the events that took took place, particularly the love scene? Lastly, consider the significance of flashbacks in “The English Woman” and “The Collector of Treasures”. How important is the use of this literary element in telling the stories of Sadie and Dekelidi? Please address these questions in a two to three page journal entry. Your journal entry must be typed in double spaced, 12pt Times New Roman font with one inch margins at the top, bottom, left, and right. Be sure to number your pages and put your name, my name, the course, and the date in the top left hand corner of the page.
